For the price point (These sold for $240 in 1983) of the PIONEER CS-B5000D’s, they are solid performers: Tight and satisfying bass, convincing middles, and crisp highs. The speakers produce a great soundstage with fantastic depth, awesome separation, accuracy, and they have a warm and detailed sound, especially in reproducing voices - Outstanding imaging, especially for the money.
The PIONEER CS-B5000D is a three-way bass reflex design loudspeaker that is widely praised by the audiophile press for its affordability, incredible sound, and medium-small size. Wonderful Wide Sound
• Tweeter: The tweeter in the PIONEER CS-B5000D is some of the best, most natural, soft sounding you will hear – never sounding overly bright! No other tweeter compares to the performance of the 2-5/8” soft dome tweeter.
• Midrange: The midrange speaker is 3” and it produces some of the most natural, soft sounding voices you will hear – never echo or boxy sounding! No other midrange speaker of comparable size can compete nor compare in performance.
• Woofer: The woofer is a 10” IMG Dynamic Balance Driver cones with rubber surround which is in a tune ported enclosure (approx. 2-1/4" in diameter) which makes a dramatic difference in low-frequency reproduction. The CS-B5000D is surprisingly deep, actually sounding like a 14" woofer. The bass is very tight and not "loose" or "muffled" sounding at all which is why many prefer smaller woofers. The enclosure is just large enough to let the woofer produce all the low frequencies, and the insulation is the perfect amount and type for the woofer.
Lastly, the PIONEER CS-B5000D is intensely musical, presenting a large soundstage without sacrificing pinpoint localization, and are so transparent that they allow you to focus on the entertainment values of the performance without thinking about the speakers delivering the performance.
