This Mandolin was made 104 years ago. It's the rarer Koa version. Most of them were made of mahogany. Koa is a wood that is endemic to Hawaii. The mandolin was recently repaired. The body had split along the side from about half way up the mandolin down to where the tail piece screws in on the bottom and then back up about half way on the other side. The split was a result of drying out. It has since been glued. The "luthier" that glued the crack didn't line it up perfectly. The crack is fixed and won't come apart again. There are a couple of small holes at the bottom where small pieces of the wood are missing. The mandolin plays and sounds great for a 102 year old Martin Mandolin.
