Here’s a stunning 1939 Gibson Super 400 acoustic, that has a big loud tone, and looks gorgeous, with the original case.
It’s all original with no cracks or repairs, except for 2 way tape holding on the top of the original pickguard (the original small block is in the case compartment), and some overspray on the back of the neck, which looks perfect.
Gibson’s top of the line in 1939, this Super 400 has a carved spruce top, flamed maple sides, and a two-piece book matched Maple back, Ebony fingerboard with elaborate inlays, original Grover Imperial heads, the old script Gibson logo on the headstock, gold plated tailpiece, and the original sticker inside. The original case is sturdy and protective, but it has seen better days, since a lot of the leather coating has worn off, even though the inside of the case looks wonderful. I was considering it having it re-leathered, but I decided to leave it alone and leave that for the next owner of this beautiful piece.
It has a beautiful, loud tone, strung with bronze strings, with perfect intonation, and low action. There are some pick scratches on the bass side of the top (as you can see in some of the photos) but all in all, it’s in very good + condition, considering its age, and the fact that it’s been taken care of in humidified rooms, with no cracks or repair repairs. I’m a working musician, and I don’t use it on gigs because it’s a strictly acoustic instrument, and I don’t want to add any electronics to it. I’m also 5 foot six, and it’s pretty huge for me!
