I acquired this beautiful ’81 GS850G in October 2022 from Kaplan Cycles (see video) up in CT. Approaching 45 years old it's obvious how meticulously taken care this motorcycle was. Under my ownership I have continued that same care and attention to maintenance, replaceable service items and upgrades. Striving to keep it as original and stock as possible. It really is stunning to say the least and super fun to ride. Within the last 2 years/600 miles:
Brand new tires/tubes front and rear installed
Full engine gasket kit installed
All fluids changed (Oil/Filter, Gearbox, Final Drive)
Carbs balanced and tuned.
Battery Tender Pig-Tail.
Brand new vintage seat cover installed Winter 2025
New Petcock installed Summer 2025
Bunch of spare tune-up/oil change and other new parts
Comes with a rare period-correct Bates rear rack***
Spare Rear Cowling
Spare Odometer (Trip odometer on bike in-op)
Added a Dual USB handlebar power supply (switched)
Added analog clock.
OEM Suplimental Service Manual
OEM Owners Manual
At close to 600lbs. versus my 70 years old it is getting a bit heavy for me. Thus my putting her up for sale. She has never been “down” and I don’t want to be the first.
No disappointments whether you are into local cruising or want to point her West to the Pacific. Reliability of these GS’s are legendary. Hard to find in this condition. Insured with Hagerty and rated by them between Very Good to Excellent. Full re-gasket of the entire engine Fall of 2024. She is as day one on the showroom floor.
$3200.00 or Best Reasonable Offer. If you, the potential buyer are not interested in the Bates Rear Rack*** I will take $100.00 off the final agreed selling price. The rack did not come with the bike, I sourced it from vintage Suzuki websites on-line. It is a very, very rare aftermarket period correct accessory for GS750's, 850's and 1000's so I know I will have no problems re-selling it (for a lot more than $100) if you do not want or like it. All pictures were taken last weekend/Labor Day weekend with the exception of the last two (2) which show the Bates Rear Rack installed.
Test rides with cash-in-hand and a valid Motorcycle license. I'll add that even in this incredible condition and low price-point as entrance to classic and vintage motorcycling, the overall weight at 600lbs. does NOT make this a good beginner motorcycle. I say that not to deter potential buyers but as someone with over 55 years of riding experience.
Powerful and heavy though turn-key and go anywhere. Needs nothing.
Shop manual and Owners manual included. All NY DMV paperwork up-to-date including title, registration and NYS inspection.
The 5 minute Kaplan Cycles video (below) of an '81 GS850G... that is this actual motorcycle. Before all the care and upgrades I have done over the years. You will need to copy and paste it to your browser to watch.
