Selling my Wilderness Systems Tempest 170. I learned to paddle in this boat and it took great care of me, but I'm making space for a new ride and this is more boat than I need at this point.
THE BOAT:
- Wilderness Systems Tempest 170, polyethylene (rotomolded) hull
- True touring sea kayak — fast, tracks beautifully, very capable in chop and wind
- Skeg-equipped (no rudder)
- Front and rear sealed bulkheads with hatches for dry storage
CONDITION:
- Fair to good for its age. Hull shows normal wear from regular paddling: plenty of superficial scratches and a few deeper ones, but nothing concerning. No cracks, no holes, no gouges — fully seaworthy.
- Always garage stored — no UV damage, plastic still has plenty of life left.
- Regular maintenance throughout ownership.
- Rear cockpit bulkhead was resealed a few years ago (a known maintenance item on Tempests with foam bulkheads — currently watertight).
- New bungees and deck line.
- Seat is in fine shape. No one would mistake it for new, but it's still super comfy. (You may notice thigh pads missing in the photo — I still have and will include the originals, I just don't currently use them.)
INCLUDED EXTRAS (not yet installed — was saving them for end of season):
- Brand new thigh brace pads. You'll notice small tears in the current ones — they don't bother me, but I have new ones for you that take 5 minutes to install whenever you're ready.
- Brand new skeg cable. Skeg currently works fine as is, once you learn the trick of guiding it with your thumb (common for these types of systems). If it bothers you, I'm including the skeg cable for replacement.
This is a great boat ready for many more seasons and adventure.
