Join the Milling Department at Downing Frames!
Downing Frames is a contemporary art framing studio specializing in the fabrication of handmade, museum-quality frames. We’re looking for a skilled and detail-oriented miller to join our wood shop’s milling department — the first step in creating our custom frames.
📅 Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM
📋 Employment Type:
Full-time, W2 position (no part-time or cash employment)
🛠 Responsibilities:
* Milling hardwood and softwood stock to precise dimensions
* Operating table saws, planers, jointers, and other milling equipment safely and efficiently
* Preparing raw materials for the joinery and finishing teams
* Measuring, marking, and maintaining dimensional accuracy
* Monitoring material quality and ensuring consistency across production
* Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area
✅ Desired Skills & Experience:
* Prior milling or woodworking experience preferred
* Strong understanding of woodworking machinery and material handling
* Commitment to precision and craftsmanship
* Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness
* Ability to work collaboratively and follow detailed instructions
* Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to learn
We’re also open to training individuals who demonstrate a strong work ethic and genuine interest in developing hands-on milling and woodworking skills.
