When I found these earlier this year, they were a little bit of a mess. But, loving father that I am, I brought them home and took everything down to the nub. Polished and buffed the raw shells with Drum Detailer. Polished every single piece of metal. Replaced a questionable spur (with a DW Spur). Oh, and was using this with a DW Collector's (3mm thick shell) Bell Brass 14x4 that sounds like an M-80 (make sure you've got a snare stand that can handle a 12lb drum.
What you've got now is a very good - to - excellent set of DW Design Series in the Midnight Blue Lacquer that they should have kept making.
Shell sizes? 22x18 kick, 12x9 rack, 16x14 floor.
Now, let's talk about the upgrades here:
First of all, every factory head has been scrapped. Even the DW Collector's series ship with trash heads. Top and bottom replaced with brand new, never played Evans G2 Coateds on Tom batters and Genera Resonants on the bottoms. Kick has a brand new EMAD II up for your footsies (even has a falam slam patch ready to apply) and a pretty slick Vintage DW coated up front. (Evans EQ Pad is also in the kick). That's a good $200+ worth of heads right there, without breaking a sweat.
Oh, those bags? Those are Barton GSP which are the plushest, pimp-grade bags you can buy. Super-lux interior that'll keep these safe on the go. I wish I had a coat lined with this interior. Wait, wait, the best part? They've NEVER EVEN left the house. Nary a stain or snag to be found.
So... potential downsides - full transparency here - the kick's got a few scapes on the underside and two small nicks on the top, likely the original owner denting it with the rack tom. Neither are even close to pushing through the finish. A little bit of pedal rash on the batter hoop. Toms seem very clean all around but there may be the occasional nick. Like I said they're very-good-to-excellent. Not perfect. From 5' away, you'd never see any of it.
None of the hardware or cymbals pictured in the hero shots are included. Was that not obvious? Includes the STM Mount for the tom and the three floor tom legs. End of list. (If you want/need some hardware or cymbals (Sabian AAX), I will be ready to hot diggety deal.
I'm in Forest Hills just a few blocks from the 71st/Continental EFMR stop. Big parking lot across the street. I have already packed them up nesting-doll style, so if you need to see them up close, let me know.
Happy to answer any questions - or sell minus the snare ($500) if you are all snared up already (I know I am). Less happy to field bogus messages and absurd lowballs. If you're going to offer $1000 on these? Prepare for a dissertation in return about being a cheap bastige.
Okay, I think that's about it. Oh, right - BUY THESE.
