This beautifully crafted hat was brought back from Korea by my late father-in-law while he was overseas in the army - so I have a definite date of age. Each hat made is a bit unique as they are made completely by hand of natural materials using a centuries old technique throughout Asia
It is woven from strips of rattan & bamboo and has flattened dried bamboo leaves in between the layers of weaving.
This makes the hat virtually water repellent and long lasting.
It has a woven cup like section underneath to make the hat sit better on the top of your head and the only thing missing is the strings that you would use to tie under your chin.
I really did not want to use the word "coolie" in this listing due to it's negative connotations, however, that is what most people would call a hat like this - MY APOLOGIES IF I HAVE OFFENDED ANYONE
