nonfiction books are sold via book proposals,
not complete manuscripts. If a ghostwriter
doesn't explain this to you, it's probably because
a proposal will cost you less than a full
manuscript; plus it's quite hard for a ghostwriter
to meet the high publishing standards
of jaded book agents and acquisitions editors,
who are looking for any reason to reject your book
as they plow through their daily piles of submissions.
I'm one of the few ghostwriters who
not only doesn't avoid mentioning
book proposals but actually specializes
in creating them. (I'm also very happy
to write your complete book--but typically
not until the proposal lands you a publisher.)
While this is a tougher way to operate as
a ghostwriter, to my mind it's the right thing
