Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC) is one of New York City’s largest and most comprehensive social service agencies, dedicated to serving men and women who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. Every day, we see the difference compassion makes—and it is the generosity of volunteers like you that allows us to carry out our mission with both heart and impact.
Thanksgiving is the busiest volunteer season of the year, and it is also one of the most meaningful. For many of the individuals we serve, the holiday can be a difficult reminder of what they’ve lost. But thanks to our volunteers, it also becomes a time of comfort, dignity, and connection. Whether you’re available on the holiday itself or in the days leading up to it, your time and presence can bring warmth and hope to someone who needs it most.
Although our full schedule is not yet available, we encourage you to begin the process now by completing your volunteer registration form and attending an orientation session. Doing so ensures that when the schedule is released, you’ll receive early access to the full list of Thanksgiving shifts—well before it is shared with the general public.
Getting started early makes all the difference. The sooner you complete these steps, the more opportunities will be available to you when the schedule opens. Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and they do reach capacity quickly. By planning ahead, you’ll have the best chance of securing the role that fits your schedule and allows you to make the greatest impact.
Once the finalized list of shifts is made available to all pre-registered volunteers, locations will be in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.
Please note: Volunteers must be at least 18 to participate. We are not able to accomodate large groups.
