Smokers are needed as the comparison group for a study about cancer detection. Fanconi anemia is a genetic disease caused by the body’s failure to repair damaged DNA (genetic material). Patients with Fanconi Anemia are at greater risk of developing certain cancers. Researchers at The Rockefeller University are seeking nicotine smokers to help develop noninvasive approaches to early detection of cancer.
You may be eligible if:
You are a heavy smoker between the ages of 60-75
You do not have Fanconi Anemia
You have not had a blood transfusion in the last 3 months
You do not have a bleeding disorder
Participation includes:
1 Screening phone call
1 Virtual visit Zoom or telephone for informed consent and medical questionnaire
1 In-person visit to the RU Outpatient Clinic for vital signs, check, blood draw, oral examination
and video recording of mouth, brushing of mouth to collect cells, and saliva collection
