I hired an electrician to replace a magnetic lock on my outside gate. He installed the outside hardware and the inside power but the connection was unstable because he tried to use the old wires inside the old conduit. He never got around to install the matching video screen, then moved back to Africa :(
I turned on the power strip inside the house that he has the transformer plugged into, and that makes the magnetic lock work. When I turn off the power it unlocks. This proves the wires for the magnet work fine; it’s just the control wires that are faulty. He said he thought there was a broken wire, but it’s possible he just didn’t connect the control wires correctly
I’m very handy myself so know exactly what needs to be done
0. First try to pull the new wires through the existing conduit, if that doesn’t work you can:
1. Remove the old conduit (hard pipe) & old wires & run the new wires in FLEXIBLE OUTDOOR CONDUIT (similar to the outside part of a BX cable)
3. Connect the outdoor lock to the inside controller
4. Add the matching video screen controller
Quite frankly, I could do this myself but I don’t have the time, and would prefer to hire a non-licensed electrician to do the job
It’s a low voltage system once you’re past the inside transformer
