We’re seeking a central character for a short documentary (~10 mins, ~3 days of filming) focused on a day in the life of someone experiencing homelessness in New York City. This is a documentary, not a fiction film and we’re seeking a real person who is facing homelessness, not an actor. Our goal is to shed light on the issue of homelessness and housing insecurity in New York through the personal experiences of those affected.
We’re particularly interested in the New York ferry system and folks that are sheltering near the St. George & Whitehall stations. We’re open to people from a variety of backgrounds-- gender, ethnicity, age, etc (18 years old and up). Link below where you can share some of your story.
We’re seeking someone who is eager to tell their story and share it with a potentially wide audience. Our previous two short films have been featured on The New York Times (link below). Our process involves collaborating with our subjects to tell the story with as much respect, intention and dignity as possible.
As a documentary the position is not paid, however the film will be able to cover some small expenses like travel and meals.
