Good news
Intel i7 720QM 1.6GHz CPU, 8GB RAM.
DVD ROM works.
Speaker and camera work.
Bluetooth works.
Ethernet, USB, and other outlets work.
Trackpoint (red button thing) works as do the trackpoint right and left clicks.
Charger works.
Not so good news
Was having issues booting Windows 10 so I removed everything and installed Ubuntu 20. Computer does and can boot (in about five minutes).
Wifi does not work.
Trackpad (that spot you run your finger over like a mouse) does not work.
Power and heating issues. Laptop can get super hot.
Working but bad battery. Fully charged battery lasts under an hour.
Due to BIOS/driver issues, Ubuntu power off function throws out an error (so I have been pressing the manual power button to turn laptop off).
Am selling this because:
1. If laptop was mostly fine and not in a condition that would confuse/irritate most users, I would have given it away.
2. On the other hand, laptop is not dead or severely unusable, so I don't think it belongs in the trash just yet.
If you are looking for parts or a fixer upper, or if you are a patient/educated user who knows your way around hairy computer situations like this, then this laptop is for you. At $20, I think it is a steal considering I am seeing similar laptops in far worse conditions selling for a lot more.
Happy to travel to other boroughs although I would prefer to meet in Manhattan for cash.
