I'm a seasoned veteran at roomate hunting on Craig's List. I'd like to save everyone some time by being specific....
What the apapartment is: Cozy, small East Village tenement style. Super convenient to most things, including food, dessert, parks, transit and mostly everything else you can want from NYC. Close to most movie theaters, school, trains, ect...The room for rent is off the main entrance. It's a small room with 2 windows, not much of a view though. We're one flight up in the back of the building, so it's not bright but very quiet. Your room has a door for privacy, a loft bed (elevated) with a futon mattress if needed. I also have a new air-conditioner, fan and desk, and a shelf. All items can be removed if you wish, however it would be nice to have someone who doesn't have these items and could use them. The apartment has shared bathroom and kitchen. The living room is connected to my bedroom and since I'm an early riser, it gets closed down pretty early.
What I'm looking for: someone responsible, respectful, mature and considerate. Someone that can remember to lock up after themselves, someone that cleans up after themselves and someone that remembers to shut off the gas on the stove when cooking. Someone that likes dogs and animals in general. You can be a night owl, but don't bring the party home. I'd like to have an understanding that we can both have 1 guest stay over at a time, the apartment is small and we need to respect each others space. I've been in the apartment for over ten years and its a cozy cabin style in here. It's been described as shabby chic from my more fashionable pals ;) ! If you want a guest to stay for a significant amount of time, we will need to have a conversation about it. I of course would do the same for you, mutual respect.
Worst things I think I do...leave the apartment early, having to walk past your door twice, one to walk the dog and once to go to work, around 8am. I try to be quiet and respectful. Most past roomates never complained or heard a peep. I am open to my roomate having guests but I am renting the room to one person, not two. I've lived with women and men, straight and gay...I'm open. I am a 44 year old man, NY native, hard working, cancer, hard working class hippie. This year I have adopted a middle aged chihuahua named Barrington, Barry for short. He is my biggest asset. To live here you should be a dog fan. 4:20 friendly.
Gas and electric are included. first and last month rent upon arrival. First come first serve! If I haven't scared you away already, please come and pay the room a visit.
