Located in the Times Square District, we are specialty shoe business -- the ultimate source of ballroom, tango, salsa and theatrical dance shoes for New York City. In 2006, we opened our second location in Los Angeles, California.
We are NOT a little ballet shoppe. Our shoes have been featured in Marie Claire, InStyle, New York Magazine, and Vogue Italia. We are the designers and providers to shows like "Hamilton", "Dancing with the Stars", "So You Think You Can Dance", as well as various performing artists, feature films and many of the shows on Broadway.
WHAT WE ARE SEEKING:
All of our teammates are expected to be tough-minded, motivated, smart and talented individuals. We are definitely looking for people with a strong work ethic, that work at a good pace, and take pride in doing their job well. For this reason, though retail experience is great, it is NOT essential for the right candidate. Professional attitude, initiative, positive outlook, patience, and poise required. Fluency in Russian, Mandarin or Spanish are a definite plus. Ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs essential and required.
MUST LOVE RETAIL -- MUST LOVE DOGS
We expect our all of our retail teammates -- especially our part timers -- to do more than just fold clothing and greet clients. We are a small business and the contribution of every member of our team has a direct impact on our success. If you want to earn money and learn something about business, this just might be a good place for you. If you are looking for a place to kill time -- please do NOT apply.
Responsibilities for our retail shoe crew will include, but are not limited to, the following:
basic store maintenance and cleaning
helping clients by selling shoes
other duties as assigned
In addition you are expected to learn and required to think here. You will learn a lot about our product and industry so that you will be able to help our clients and provide them with the correct options for their needs. We do offer growth opportunities for advancement to higher-level retail as well as corporate positions, and we like to groom from within.
About the DOGS.
We have them. We love them. They are part of the work environment. Sometimes none are here, sometimes only 1 is here, and sometimes there are more. If you are afraid or allergic to dogs, this is not the place for you.
CONSISTENT PART TIME POSITIONS/POTENTIAL FULL TIME
We are currently hiring staff looking for consistent part-time work. That means once you get a schedule, we try to keep you in that schedule. To be considered for a position here, you MUST be able to regularly work at least 1 full weekend day to be considered. You also need to be able to work holidays.
As a part-time employee, your schedule will NOT exceed 29 hours. But, when we say CONSISTENT part time, here is what we mean: once we work out a schedule, we like to keep it that way for as long as possible. Many of our staff are college students which means that their availability changes with the new semester, and we attempt to adjust our team's schedules for that reason -- as well as to provide a livable balance for reasons of fairness.
Our business hours are Monday thru Wednesday from 10:30 until 7:30pm; Thursday thru Saturday from 10:30am to 8:30pm and Sundays from Noon until 6pm. We offer half day shifts from Opening-3:00pm/4:00pm (which we call the "WALTZ" shift) and from 3:00pm/4:00pm to CLOSE (which we call the "TANGO" shift). There is only 1 shift on a Sunday.
If you cannot work a weekend full day AND at least other 3 shifts (i.e. half days) during the week, please do NOT apply. If you are not willing to work any holidays, please do not apply.
Right now, we are looking for at least TWO teammates with strong preference given to candidates who are available on Saturday and Sunday and those candidates who have open availability/flexible schedules. We have openings all shifts but preference for:
- Monday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or a person who can work a full day)
- Tuesday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or a person who can work a full day)
Wednesday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or a person who can work a full day)
Thursday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or a person who can work a full day)
Friday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or two people who can work a full day)
Saturday -- Waltz and Tango Shifts (or two people who can work a full day) (possibly rotating off 1 x per month)
- Sunday -- Shortened Day -- Only One Shift from Noon to 6pm
When you write to us, please be sure to indicate days or shifts that you are available to work.
FULL TIME POTENTIAL
Right now, we are also looking for potential full time candidates. To be considered for full-time, you must be willing to work a minimum of 35 hours per week and have open and flexible availability to have your schedule adjusted as needed on an ongoing basis. For full-timers, we also expect you to have previous relevant work experience and be more polished in your presentation and computer skills. If you are interested in a full-time position and feel that you qualified, please indicate this in your email.<br>
Our company has a corporate casual dress code, with a dress black, white or gray color palette. That means black pants or capris and plain black, white or gray tops. Sweats and/or workout wear is not appropriate, but banker wear is also unnecessary.
Compensation starts at $15.00/hr but increases incrementally to $17.50 throughout training and testing to reach "Senior Associate" level during your first 1000 to 2000 hours. And -- yes -- the range of hours means that some team members get there faster than others.
Paid Time Off. Employee Discounts. Medical insurance for Full-Time employees only.
This is NOT a commission-based sales position. But, we like to promote from within so this is a ground-floor opportunity for those looking for long-term growth. This is an on-the-books position, and legal status to work is required.
