A gorgeous Suzuki Violin No. 580 in excellent vintage condition. Made in Nagoya, Japan. Features highest quality select woods and precise workmanship. Varnished in the Cremona tradition, with artful shading.
The No. 580 is an "orchestra" grade professional model by Suzuki. Beautiful, complex tone across the entire range, with rich overtones and good separation. A rewarding instrument for the skilled player. The price I am asking is a fraction of what one would have to pay in the store for an instrument of similar quality.
This instrument is an example of Suzuki Violin craftmanship at its best. Absolutely flawless construction and complex multi-layer varnishing. The instrument is light and aesthetically inspiring.
The violin is defect-free - there are no cracks, repairs, seam separations, or any other issues. There is a minor scratch from the string adjuster under the tailpiece, otherwise in perfect condition cosmetically. Equipped with a brand new set of Thomastik-Infeld Dominant strings.
The No. 580 was introduced in 1970s and was among the most senior (and expensive) models in Suzuki's line-up. In 1996, the No. 580 was "consolidated" into the newly introduced No. 1100 "Eternal" model targeting professional musicians. In my understanding, the primary difference between the No. 580 and No.1100 models was the quality of the fittings and varnishing (the price difference between the two models was about 15%).
For price reference, in 1991, the year this violin was made, the No. 580 model was priced at 1.65x relative to Suzuki's highly popular No. 540 "advanced" model. In recent years, the No. 540 was listed by Suzuki at ¥198,000 (which was equal to roughly $2,000).
The No. 580 is a fully hand crafted model. Each violin was built by an experienced Suzuki craftsman from highest quality, aged tone woods using the traditional method by carving out the front and back plates from a sufficiently thick, thoroughly dried wood plate.
ACCESSORY OPTION
Recognizing that many violin players are particular about their bows and accessories, I am offering the violin and accessories separately. The price shown is for instrument only.
If you need accessories, the images show an example of an accessory set that can be purchased alongside the violin at a highly favorable price. This specific set can be purchased for just $150 and includes:
CASE: Premium ESPRI UL ultra-light oblong case made by the famed Japanese case maker TOYO GAKKI for advanced and professional players. Gently used. Sells brand new in Japan for around $275.

SUZUKI VIOLINS
In the event you are not familiar with Suzuki's model line-up, their model numbers are very easy to understand:
- the 200 series (such as 200, 220, 280, etc.) are high quality and very popular beginner models;
- the 300 series (300, 310, 330, etc.) are "intermediate" violins for progressing students;
- the 500 series (500, 520, 540, 550) are "advanced" violins;
- the Eternal series (1100 and 1200) are targeted at professional musicians - "orchestra" grade models;
- the Heritage series (1400s and 1500s) are targeted at professional musicians - "soloist" grade models.
Within each series, models with the higher number tend to have greater value.
