Franz Kirschnek, a highly regarded violin maker from Erlangen, Germany, creates instruments in the Markneukirchen tradition. Their violins and violas have a strong reputation worldwide for their flawless quality and superb tone. Models in the line-up vary from instruments for advanced learners to instruments for orchestra players to individually made exceptional violins for soloists. All the instruments are entirely made in Germany using only select old seasoned tone woods. Kirschnek prides itself for not importing any parts.

This Kirschnek No. 22, one of the more senior models in the line-up, belongs to the prestigious "Concert" series, which targets advanced players. The violin is described by the maker as one with “selected old maple, finely figured; choice spruce top; fine orange‑brown shading.” Indeed, this violin's back impresses with its beautiful, select tone wood - European Maple with a narrow, regular, nearly horizontal flame pattern. The violin has a rich, open tone that is nicely balanced across the entire range and good resonance and projection.

The violin was made in 1990 and shows some minor traces of prior use – please review the images carefully. However, it is in excellent condition structurally and is free of major cosmetic blemishes. It is play-ready.

This is the opportunity to own an excellent German violin at a fraction of the store price - this model typically retails brand new for over $3,000 (the instrument only, before VAT).

Accessory Option

Recognizing that many violin buyers already own good quality bows, cases, shoulder rests, and other accessories, I am offering this violin as instrument-only.

If you prefer to purchase the violin with accessories, I will do my best to put together the outfit you need at an attractive price.
