I am an active piano teacher here on the Upper East Side, w/ students ranging from beginners to highly advanced. Although the students vary so widely in their piano skills, it is very rewarding as a teacher to work with all levels... just taking people where I find them and having the pleasure of seeing them play increasingly difficult repertoire; perform works they've always wanted to play, etc.
And whether the student is a beginner or advanced, I also incorporate music reading and/or music theory in the lesson. These types of skills help a pianist learn future pieces more rapidly.
Part of the fun of studying and playing the piano can definitely be performing on concerts, so I also organize recitals for the students to perform on a couple of times a year. One certainly doesn't have to perform on these recitals, but most students really enjoy performing on a concert attended by their family and friends.
If this sounds interesting, it would be great to hear from you.
Adults students only.
