Hi,
If you’re looking for the cheapest tutor, I may not be the right fit. But if you’re looking for an experienced educator who can help your student truly build confidence, clarity, and lasting success, I can help. My students don’t just raise their scores; they rebuild confidence and transform how they experience learning.
My name is Chris Dingman. I offer individualized tutoring of the highest quality. Over more than 30 years, I’ve developed deep expertise in
SAT and ACT preparation
Math through Calculus
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
Writing — from organization and structure to style and grammar
A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard and voted Marin County’s Best Tutor for 2022 by readers of The Pacific Sun, I’ve helped students raise their test scores both in school and on the SAT and ACT. Just as importantly, I’ve also helped students achieve breakthroughs in both understanding and motivation.
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and teach by Zoom everywhere. My teaching career began as an undergraduate at Harvard, where I served as a course assistant in Calculus. Since then, I’ve taught hundreds of students and created educational content for major tutoring companies, including standardized test prep and instructional videos.
Why Work With Me instead of a Test Prep Company
Experience: Teaching is an art. It isn’t just about conveying information. It’s about meeting a particular person and helping that person feel comfortable and confident. I have a deeper background, more expertise, and more experience helping students than do test prep company teachers. To make a profit, SAT prep companies have to pay lower rates to their instructors and higher rates to you, keeping the difference. This means they hire instructors with less experience. When you work with me, you cut out the middle man. All your money goes to buying quality instruction instead of a company’s overhead.
An Individualized Program: Any “one-size-fits-all” program for teaching is really a one-size-fits-none” program. I assess students with a practice test and then target only the areas your teen needs to study and practice. We go at the pace that best suits your teen, pausing to take more time where needed and skipping over the material your teen has already mastered. Every minute focuses on what your teen most needs, in a style that fits them.
I also have a parallel career as a professional writer of screenplays, essays, and poetry, and I tutor writing from organizational help, to sentence structure/style, to grammar. My writing website can be found at SparkWrites (dot) com.

More About My Approach:
Teaching isn’t just knowing the answers. It’s an art. Working with me, students feel calm and confident, able to think clearly, ask questions, and tap into their natural desire to learn.
My tutoring approach is easy-going, focused, and individualized. These three elements complement and amplify each other. Time spent with me is more efficient and effective than classroom instruction, which must use what I call a “one-size-fits-none” approach. By contrast, I help create a relaxed atmosphere and authentic connection that puts students at ease and allows optimal learning.
Students often succeed with me even when they've been frustrated by subjects or other tutors and teachers. Students almost always see both their confidence, scores, and grades go up.
