Experienced Veterinary Assistant desired for a small veterinary hospital in Flatiron/Chelsea area of Manhattan. A minimum of 1-2 years experience in a veterinary or medical office setting is required for your resume to be reviewed. The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarian and takes care of the everyday needs of pets in the hospital ward and boarding facility and helps maintain the hospital facility. This position also is responsible for reception duties that are shared with the other assistants. Professionalism with our clientele and staff is central to this position.

Currently, the position is 4 to 5 days a week- including every Saturday. Do not apply if you cannot work these days. Each shift starts at 8:00AM and ends at 6:00PM. Arriving on time is a must. Salary is dependent on experience, likely starting between $15-17/hour for qualified employees. There are no health benefits at this time.

The Veterinary Assistant must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 25 pounds, work on their feet all day, and read and communicate in English.

Essential Functions:

Provide compassionate care for hospitalized pets. Provide friendly interaction with clients and animals.
Restrain pets for veterinarians and technicians.
Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed.
Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets.
Clean cages, runs, boarding area and/or hospital facilities, including exam rooms and treatment room.
Assist with reception / front desk duties daily- answering phones, booking appointments, collecting payments, and admitting / discharging patients. Maintain reception area in a neat and sanitary condition.
Provide clean bedding, water and litter pans for pets.
Feed hospitalized/boarded pets as needed.
Exercise hospitalized/boarded pets as needed.
Take incoming pets to appropriate areas.
Bathe and groom pets and prepare pets for dismissal.
Retrieve pets that are being discharged.
Update food, boarding, and inventory logs throughout the day.
Operate washer and dryer to clean kennel bedding and hospital laundry.
Wash and sanitize pet dishes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Assist in training and mentoring new team members.
Follow Legal Standards- Always adhere to OSHA standards and all laws applicable to veterinary hospitals.
Inventory Control- Document all inventory usage history; unpacking, restocking drug and medical supplies.
Medication- Prepare prescriptions; dispenses medications and medication refills.
Hospital Cleaning- Assist in cleaning hospital facilities, including bathrooms, reception, and boarding area.
