Historically important cast iron roundel reclaimed from the NYC West Side Highway in 1931, which was first known as the Miller Elevated Highway. Between the guardrails at regular intervals were seals of New York, from the first seal of New Netherland in 1623 to the seal used by the city of New York when the highway was erected in the 1930s. This is a hard-to-find and well-documented medallions plaque. The Brooklyn Museum retains an example of this New York City Seal Medallion that is attributed to Paul Rene Paul Chambellan (American, 1893–1955). Dimensions : 18 x 18 x 2 1/2 in. (45.7 x 45.7 x 6.4 cm). Also attached is a pic of a similar item sold at Urban Remains in Chicago.
