A masterpiece of organic design, La Chaise was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1948 for a competition at MoMA. A marriage of technical engineering and elegant form, this striking lounge chair was inspired by “Floating Figure”, a 1927 sculpture by Gaston Lachaise. (The bronze work depicts a stylized female nude suspended in the air.) Although the chair was intended to be released in 1950, Herman Miller found it so difficult and expensive to produce that they never released one. Over 40 years later, La Chaise was finally put into production by Vitra, the Swiss manufacturer that serves as the official licensee of Eames designs outside the US.

This exact piece is in superb, incredibly clean condition, 100% authentic and fully labeled. Made in Switzerland. Shell made of polyurethane resin with a satin-smooth white lacquer finish. Base is chrome-plated tubular steel atop a cruciform base of solid natural oak (sourced from Western Europe with a protective natural lacquer finish).

Though it may look more like a work of art than a chair, La Chaise is actually exceedingly comfortable and enables any number of seating positions - it invites you to slide into it, cradling you in sublime comfort.
