I am a chef and restauranteur in NYC for nearly 20 years and a member of the 1% club twice. (only 1% of NYC restaurants last longer than 10 years) and I want to open the first fast food vegan restaurant whose entrees are slightly more expensive than McDonald's but far less than 5 guys, ect.
There will be 8 entrees priced at $8 and 2 specialty drinks $3 & $4 as well as a free water bottle filler and water fountain. The cost price of the food is 15% which is a fantasy percentage for most restaurants and fast-food places, but achievable with plant-based food.
Full financials are available.
With this food cost and anticipated interest, we will be able to offer the workers a living wage and health insurance. We want to publicize this and ask why other fast-food companies aren’t doing the same?
80% of the company will be owned by the staff with 40% of the profits distributed back to them and 40% going to charity. The investors would be paid back first with a 15% premium and own 10% (or a percentage of that) of the business. I will own the other 10% but pledge this back to the company on my death. I would hope the business will be 100% employee-owned at some point. I want all of the employees’ wages to be linked. The highest paid employee cannot get paid more than 10 times the lowest paid and if they take a 10% raise the lowest paid employee gets the same.
40% profits to be given to a board to distribute very transparently, with employees voting on causes.
Why am I doing this, and why on earth would you invest?
I’m sick of the way service industry employees are being treated and paid appallingly. I want to make a loud statement that it doesn’t have to be this way, that you can open an 80% employee-owned business and still make a very decent living. I have a long track record in the industry, and I believe this is my best work to date. I want to give fast food a 100% plant-based option.
You should invest because you believe in a plant-based future, believe in employee rights, and want to make some noise about how things can and should be run.
I’ve developed a “new to industry” approach, turning existing restaurant spaces into high-turnover production kitchens with one store supplying up to 2 additional stores.
Because of this approach opening costs are only $350K, I’m looking for an investor (s) to front $300K.
I realize most investors will laugh at my approach, but I want to offer a kinder way to do business. I believe NYC can absorb at least 8 of these stores without the need for expensive factory facilities. We’ll get our initial investment back quickly and have a very decent income for a long time.
I want to open a store that reflects Mondani’s vision of NYC. Think of the marketing opportunities?
I would love to introduce you to the food and the vision. I’m local and can meet anywhere within the 5 boroughs. Thanks.
