If you’re a craft cocktail professional who takes real pride in craft, precision, and genuine service, the Up & Up could be the place for you.
Now in its tenth year, The Up & Up is a seated-only cocktail bar in Greenwich Village known for both the quality of its cocktails and the care of its service. Here, you’ll have the chance to work at one of New York’s most respected cocktail bars, surrounded by people who take the craft as seriously as you do.
This role is best suited to someone who thrives under pressure, enjoys high standards, and takes satisfaction in getting the details right—every round, every guest, every night. It’s demanding work and not suitable for those looking for an easy gig. But, for the right person, it’s deeply rewarding.
Details:
-Two shifts per week: Sunday and Monday until mid-December, at which point it would be Monday and Tuesday for about 4 weeks, and then return to Sunday and Monday. There is also a high likelihood of additional coverage on other nights throughout the holiday season.
-Shifts will include Bartending and Floor Serving with occasional Barback shifts. Because all tipped positions (Bartender, Floor
Server, Barback) are paid the tipped minimum wage plus an equal share of the tip pool, our team fills all roles as needed.
-Floor Serving is drinks-focused—The Up & Up is a cocktail bar, not a restaurant. Food knowledge is of minimal importance here.
-Shifts start between 1:30–5:45 pm and typically run 9–12 hours.
-This job is physically demanding. It involves standing for several hours, lifting heavy boxes and carrying large trays of drinks in tight spaces.
You’ll get to:
-Work alongside a tight-knit group of hospitality pros who take care of one another.
-Use and refine your cocktail skills while learning every aspect of how a precision cocktail bar operates.
-Share equally in a fair, team-based tip pool that rewards consistency and cooperation.
-Contribute to a space where high standards, focus, and respect define the culture.
The right person for this role:
-Has real craft cocktail experience, ideally in a NYC cocktail bar or high-volume restaurant.
-Takes pride in working cleanly, quickly, and precisely.
-Is reliable and consistent—shows up on time, ready to work, every shift. Frequent call-outs or schedule conflicts simply don’t fit our model.
-Handles long, demanding shifts with focus and good humor.
-Listens well, takes direction, and contributes to a small, interdependent team.
-Naturally takes care of guests and colleagues alike.
-Finds satisfaction in doing things the right way, even when it’s harder.
To apply:
Email your resume and a cover letter (pasted into the body of the email) with TEAM MEMBER in the subject line. Attachments or photos will not be opened. Replies without a cover letter will not be reviewed.
In your cover letter, please include:
-What’s your favorite bar in NYC, and why?
-Are you available for the schedule as outlined above? Any other days?
-Do you have any upcoming time off planned including holiday travel?
Please also include at least three references—they will be checked.
We ask that you do not visit the bar in person or drop off resumes. Management isn’t available for unscheduled interviews, and staff cannot accept them.
For the right person, this is a challenging, rewarding role in a respected bar where skill and professionalism truly matter.
We look forward to hearing from you!
