The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, light meals, and snacks to guests in a courteous and efficient manner. The role ensures compliance with hotel standards, maintains bar cleanliness and inventory, and performs cashiering duties.
The Bartender plays a key role in delivering Sonesta's mission of providing exceptional service to both guests and colleagues. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary work environment.

High school diploma or GED preferred, culinary degree a plus.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Previous experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel culinary operation strongly preferred
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum age 21 years old.
2 years’ experience as a bartender or barback.
Have at least 2 years of experience in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality setting (as a bartender, barback, or similar role).
Hold a valid Food Handling Certificate (or be willing to obtain one within 30 days of hire).
Alcohol awareness certification (such as TIPS® or ServSafe Alcohol).
Communicate clearly and courteously in English with guests, coworkers, and supervisors.
Legibly record orders and transactions.
Knowledge of a second language is a plus.
Requirements
Perform basic math for cash handling and drink preparation.
Operate a computer and point-of-sale (POS) system.
Remain on your feet for most of an 8 hour shift or more if required.
Ability to stand 8–10 hours per shift.
Safely lift and move items from 25 pounds up to 50 pounds (such as cases of beverages or kegs).
Carry trays or supplies as needed in the bar and service areas.
Stay organized, detail-oriented, and attentive in fast-paced environments.
Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Exercise good judgment, especially when determining if a guest is intoxicated.

A. Opening Duties
Review daily opening checklist.
Stock and set up bar (bottles, glassware, garnishes, snacks, ice, paper goods).
Prepare mixes, check equipment, and ensure refrigeration is at proper temperatures.
Complete opening inventory sheet and requisition supplies.
Ensure bar area is clean, organized, and ready for service.
B. Service Duties
Greet guests warmly and take beverage/food orders.
Provide recommendations and upsell when appropriate.
Accurately input orders into the POS system.
Prepare and serve drinks per recipes and hotel standards.
Deliver light food items and beverages to guests.
Serve wine, cocktails, champagne, espresso, and cappuccino when ordered.
Respond promptly to guest needs and requests.
C. Guest Relations
Maintain positive guest interactions and anticipate needs.
Handle complaints professionally to ensure satisfaction.
Answer the bar phone promptly and courteously.
Be knowledgeable about hotel services and local attractions.
D. Compliance & Cash Handling
Follow all state liquor laws and hotel alcohol service policies.
Maintain assigned bank and handle all cashiering duties accurately.
Secure cash and credit transactions according to hotel procedures.
Close guest checks in the POS system immediately upon payment.
E. Cleanliness & Safety
Keep bartop, tables, and service areas clean and organized.
Wash glassware, sanitize tools, and maintain equipment.
Follow OSHA and hotel safety procedures for chemical use.
Replace ashtrays, remove soiled wares, and reset guest areas quickly.
F. Closing Duties
Properly store reusable goods and secure alcohol storage areas.
Clean and sanitize all bar equipment, counters, and floors.
Complete closing inventory, spill reports, requisition forms, and logbook entries.
Count and secure bank, submit cashier reports, and finalize POS closing.
Restock bar for next shift as needed.
