This is a rare Vintage Japanese Geisha Dancer Doll with Tsuzumi Hand Drum, beautifully crafted in traditonal Geisha attire. Most likely made in the late 1950s. Head, hands and feet are made of gofun, which is ground oyster/clam shells. Cool, no? The face has glass eyes, with hand-painted facial features. Her Kimono is silk, obi (belt) is brocade, court hat is fabric and paper. Her drum is fabric and cardboard, drumstick is wood. This is not really a toy for a child. It is somewhat fragile. It is more for those of us who collect elements of Japanese culture.
My mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Now that she has passed I am selling off her collection.
