Robert Cipriano "'Noh Drummer 1"
The subject of this painting draws on percussion players in Noh theater, focusing on the musician playing the shoulder drum. Robert Cipriano explores this classical dance-drama and combines its aesthetic with European post-impressionism. In doing so he explores divergent sources of artistic inspiration that converge in his American identity through a painting that collides with the energy of New York City.
