A carved, wood canoe prow; Angoram people, Angoram village, East Sepik Province, Lower Sepik River region of north-western Papua New Guinea. circa early 20th century. Carved in the form of highly stylized hornbill birds on either ends, with curvilinear, circular and sawtooth motifs.
The pigments being brown (from roasted ochre), white (lime, from ground seashells) & black (from fine ground charcoal) overall.
Length: 33 7/16 inches.
There is a label on the bottom of the base base: "Sepik - Angoram Cult".
