This is a vintage pottery pencil holder in the shape of an apple. Who uses pencils today? Not me. The holes are too narrow to hold a anything but a pencil or a Bic pen. But you don't need to think of it as a pencil holder. Just because someone selling a similar item on ebay called it a pencil holder doesn't mean you have to put it to that use. Be creative! Chopsticks, knitting needles, ... chopsticks! Or why not just hink of it as a work of art. After all, the green glaze is really cool. Or a decoration for your Thanksgiving table. So many uses at such a little cost.
I should mention that the stem shows signs of having been repaired. But don't let that stop you!
Mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Mom actually used to have an antique store on Gramercy Park. Now that she has passed I am selling off those pieces from the store that she brought home after high rents forced her out of business.
