Black velvet opera coat FOR A PETITE WOMAN. Good condition. All aspects are original. It was originally purchased sometime in the late 1930s, worn very briefly, lived most of its life hung in a cedar closet. All aspects are original, including the only closures of one large velvet covered button just at collar line, a hidden hook and eye at waist. It has a white fur (rabbit?)-trimmed collar that has something sewn into it (wire?) to help maintain shape. Sleeves are both puffed at shoulder and tapered towards cuff. Also original are two (2) linings, one (muslin?) that backs the velvet; the second is satin or a satin-like material.
It has a minimum of signs of wear including: 1) light shallow splashing/disruption of the nap only on the back -- 14"-24" below collar on right back and on back of right sleeve. (This disruption is visible only in certain light); 2) light stain on satin lining, right side (approx 3"); 3) tiny discoloration mark on satin lining, left side (approx 1/2") and along few inches of satin hem/bottom.
