Are you an opera lover? If so, this is just the book to brighten up your day. A vintage hardcover edition on Opera, written in an era when opera stars were the pop stars of the day. The Victor Book of the Opera by Charles O'Connell, 10th edition 1936 (RCA Victor - yes, the old record label!) includes synopses of major operas popular at the time (Aida, Carmen, Faust, Lohengrin, Pagliacci, Rigoletto, Tosca, etc.); biographical sketches of famous composers and performers; photographs and illustrations, many of them drawn from Victor publicity materials; and notes on how Victor’s recordings related to particular arias or scenes.
This is truly a fascinating book. Wonderful photos. Great details. Lots of History. Tons of Music! Although this is an old book, the binding is still intact, and the pages are in relatively good condition. I really wish I were an opera fan like my mom. If so, this book would definitely be a keeper!
My mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Now that she has passed I am selling off her collection.
