Hand-carved wood figure of a Southeast Asian guardian/angel (often called Thepanom/Thepphanom) in the classic wai/anjali prayer pose. Gold leaf/paint over gesso with dark lacquer accents; red lacquered back. Nicely detailed headdress and costume rosettes. Hardware on the back for wall hanging (was likely made as a decorative temple-style panel/architectural element).
Material: carved wood with gilt & lacquer finish
Orientation: flat back; hangs on a wall (hook present)
Size: approx. ~17" H x 8" W x 3" D
Era: vintage, mid–late 20th c.
Condition: honest wear—scattered chips, losses to gilt and lacquer, stable age lines; presents great with warm patina. See close-ups.
Perfect statement piece for entryways, yoga/meditation rooms, or eclectic boho interiors.
