From my aunt's estate sale, this a large rustic handwoven Egyptian tapestry, approximately 112" x 64". One edge is fringed (see photo 9) and the other unfinished edge (see photo 10), there are a few small stains (see photos 5-6, 7-8), but overall the colors are vibrant and it is clean, pet/smoke free home. I've posted a pic (see photo 4) of the handmade label (ink on a scrap of fabric, it is mentioning "4 piece... something" possibly referring to the 4 panels woven together running the length of the tapestry).
As for providence of the piece, I can only say my aunt and uncle (both from Cairo) would travel back regularly to support the community art center of weavers and have had many of the Wissa Wassef pieces hanging in their home for decades (three of which I now have the honor of displaying in my own home.) I'm guessing this was from one of their last trips during the 90s, as it was never hung in their home and placed in storage till now.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll do my best to answer, I can send detailed pics video etc.
