A pair of elegant antique F. Winkle England “Togo” Flow Blue "Colonial Pottery" Plate, but not from "colonial era." More likely Victorian. Nice condition, nice scalloped edge. I found several similar plates selling on a well known auction site for anywhere from $25 to $75 a plate, so don't miss out on this deal/!
"Flow blue is a style of transferware pottery that originated in the early 19th century. It is characterized by its blurred, flowing designs, typically in shades of blue. The blurring effect was intentionally created during the firing process by adding a volatile chemical, such as ammonia or lime, to the kiln.
This technique caused the cobalt blue pigment to vaporize and bleed into the surrounding glaze, resulting in a soft, dreamy appearance. Flow blue pottery was particularly popular in the United States and Canada during the Victorian era. Many English potteries produced flow blue specifically for the North American market, featuring patterns that appealed to the tastes of the time."
My mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Now that she has passed I am selling off her collection.
