"The William Adams Custard Jug is a decorative pottery piece from the 19th century, specifically crafted in Staffordshire, England. It is known for its charming blue and white design, which reflects traditional English pottery styles. This custard jug is not only a functional item but also a collectible piece that connects to English heritage and has gained popularity due to its association with cultural references, such as the television series Downton Abbey." As to why it's called a Custard Jug ... because it's a jug for custard??? Possibly a turn of the century British fad???
In any case, if you were to search similar jugs on etsy or ebay you might be shocked to see what they are selling for. I am however not selling mine for a comparable 3-figure price because there is some slight browning around the snout along with the slightest hint of a chip. But hey, don't you just love that cobblestone design, not to mention the pheasant!
Mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Mom actually used to have an antique store on Gramercy Park. Now that she has passed I am selling off those pieces from the store that she brought home after high rents forced her out of business.
