This is a Handmade Perfume Bottle, made out of clay. My research tells me it was made in the 1920s, most likely as a replica of "Terracotta aryballos (perfume bottle) in the shape of a woman's head" that can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
When my dad was a chemist in the pharmaceutical business (Bristol Meyers Squibb) a collegue in the perfume business who he helped out gave him this terracotta bottle as a gift. A seller on eBay is selling a similar piece for $1500! (Search it if you don't believe me.) Comes with small wooden pedestal. Approx. 5 ΒΌ" tall when sitting on pedestal.
My mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Now that she has passed I am selling off her collection.
