For sale is a shadow sculpture by the artist Larry Kagan. I'm the sole owner. I bought it from OK Harris in around 2002. Kagan's work is known by collectors around the world and is in several museums. The sculpture is currently in storage in Manhattan.
Kagan's wire/shadow sculptures are made of steel wire welded by the artist to cast a shadow when lit from a point source at a certain point away. It can only hang in a room with 16' ceilings, and 18' is better. I only have this photo of it, with the light on. You can see many more images of his sculptures here:
All his sculptures are raw metal, which makes them dark. I wanted mine to blend in with a large white wall, so I had it powder coated white and received Kagan's permission to do that, so it's not seen as an alteration, it's part of the work. It is the ONLY white Kagan sculpture and looks great on a white wall. I'm available to deliver and give you a plan for installing it. I would charge extra for installation. I install it with a wireless switch, so you can ask people what they think it is and they'll say "I don't know, it looks like a jumble, like a mess." Then you hand them the wireless switch and tell them to push the button, and the couch comes to life. You'll enjoy seeing their eyes and mouths open when that happens!
I don't have dimensions, but it's around 40" wide and 20" high. It sticks out from the wall around 24". It's in a custom shipping crate.
Price is firm and includes delivery plus crate plus advice on installation in Manhattan. Extra charge for shipping and installation elsewhere. Do your homework on Larry Kagan before getting in touch, I'm not interested in offers under the asking price. At auction, it would go for $40-50k. If you want to know more, send me your phone number and I'll call you.
