This is a vintage Chinese (or Japanese) metal (Pewter, I think) picture frame. Cool dragon design. The writing at the top of the frame 日光 means sunlight in both Chinese and Japanese, but perhaps has some other meaning that I, a dabbler in Chinese, am not aware of. In any case, the original glass pane has been replaced by transparent plastic pane. I am thinking that the original pewter frame was much later attached to its current backing. The back stand has fallen off, lost to history, but I can provide a replacement you can glue on. In any case, Cool is Cool, and this frame is cool!
Mom collected antiques her entire life. She loved going to flea markets and thrift stores in search of hidden treasures. Mom actually used to have an antique store on Gramercy Park. Now that she has passed I am selling off those pieces from the store that she brought home after high rents forced her out of business.
