This guitar needs some explanation about its appearance: I did not perform the refinish on this 2013 Epiphone Genesis Deluxe Pro Limited Edition Custom Shop guitar so much of my description will be diagnosed after the fact. I got the wooden husk of this guitar used in this modified state without any parts included. I do not know what the original finish was as the top, back and headstock had been sanded to the wood and had an extremely light coat of green spraypaint under a clearcoat (some of which is still visible in places). The neck, the sides of the body, the fretboard, the binding, and the back of the headstock have been left alone and the guitar still feels and plays as it should. The control panel area was shielded and routed out (likely for some sort of custom or proprietary electronics layout.
I may not have done any of the finish work on this one but I did add all of the parts:
It has an Epiphone humbucker bridge pickup wired straight to a 500k low friction volume control (with a comfortable oversized knob) on a custom shaped plate to cover the routed out section which is wired to a standard output jack. The neck pickup is not connected to the circuit and its just for show (you can easily remove it if you want the Malcolm Young look).
As for the tuners, I installed some neat looking gold Grovers. They are not the same shape the guitar would have originally came with but it looks cooler this way if you ask me. It has a chrome Epiphone tune-o-matic bridge layout. I didn’t have a suitable gold set to match what the instrument would have originally had in my shop so I went with chrome. The strap pins are Gibson so there’s an easy upgrade.
This model is on the rare side and typically resells for between $400-$850. I know this is not what you would normally find for this model given the amateur refinish from a prior owner and considering all of the parts are replaced so the price reflects that.. However I can confirm this guitar plays and sounds great. It is the ideal guitar for garage rock or punk or metal or anything of the sort. I had the idea to install a bottle opener on it but that will only be if it sticks around for a while.
It may be players grade with its quirkiness and playwear but it is played into a very comfortable shape and I did set it up with a comfortable low action and a set of Ernie Ball 10s. Its striking and road tested for sure despite its visual oddness.
