If you’re insulted by my first line it’s ok and best you not inquire.
Over 40 years with Subarus so I don’t need your opinion about how I word my posting etc etc.
The price is firm being it’s just listed.
For honest buyers please understand that when you list a car like this you’ll have dozens of generic inquiries and absolute bottom feeders too.
If you can’t trust and work easily with a person who has over 40 years of involvement with the same brand then you’d best shop at a dealership.
This car still has plenty of potential and life left. If you’re serious about owning this era Legacy you’ll be happy to know we have others and know these cars extremely well. Former Subaru mechanic brother and I’ve turned wrenches on Subarus since around 1978
About the car. Low miles which I’ll go verify and post soon. Starts and runs smooth. Clean all around, shiny paint, firm seats that are clean, nothing nasty about the interior at all, it shows well as a low mileage car. Automatic. A/C and heat work fine. All lights and switches no problems.
Here’s why it’s $2700
There is a major clunking from the front differential which is basically attached to the transmission so most people think of this as a transmission. You can get the whole assembly from F&S the Subaru specialists at their Roxbury yard for only $200. So if this doesn’t go to that person who is willing to do the exchange I might do it when things slow down for me. Winter coming and I don’t had a garage. We inherited a car this year and can let this one go.
Last repair attempt I was doing the right front axle and bearing. I bought the bearing - Koyo like Subaru uses - Genuine replacement parts but I am getting too old to deal with the puller and the bearing. It’s one of those things a younger stronger man can do easily or get the hydraulic tool to remove and press in the new one , or pay a shop. Last I checked the local dealers wanted around $400 labor. You’ll already have the correct factory bearing and seals so you tell that to the shop so they don’t clip you more.
So if you wanted to just have a shop do this work it’s a transmission swap ( differential attached) and a front right wheel bearing. Be sure to read all again and present this to your potential garage.
It’s still $2700. That’s because the rest of the car offers clean low mileage reliable parts that folks can apply to their own cars. Low mileage engine runs nice and smooth.
Car is parked in Bridgeport. Can drive it around the parking lot.
Should you want to drive away I would say you could if local. I drove it from Milford to its spot. That’s on you. Come see it, try, it, talk with your mechanic or make your decision. For now it’s still $2700 and when you’re up close to it I’m sure you’re going to see why.
Sometimes things happen. This is the only Subaru of the many we have had where this issue came up. And only one body issue in the rear right where one of us backed into a fence. Easy to have touched up or ignore. Picture of the right rear shown now. Very limited work needed there.
What I haven’t shown in the pictures is that the body is super solid. The corners where you normally see rust or rotted hole it’s solid. All the corners in the door jambs, all the spots over the wheel arches still super nice. The rear underside is solid. Tell your mechanic the rear “box” is solid and it’s NOT a rustbucket. Car was always either garaged or parked over asphalt. Never left over dirt. Another reason why it’s $2700
If you check Car-parts.com and type in your transmission search for this year and model you’ll see F&S in Roxbury has several. They are awesome people to deal with. If the part fails they’ll swap you one. They have several listed. And they’re there to sell you good parts and not have to come back to exchange a bad part.
If you read this far I’m sure I look forward to hearing from you. But remember this: generic inquiries will not be answered. Thanks for understanding. And it’s still $2700
