At 5'1" ,this is the smallest really good quality grand piano ever made in the US . It also has a the big powerful sound that Baldwin was famous for . It was bought new by my late customer , a well-known Harlem musician and church lady , in 1969. [I have the papers]
I had taken care of it for many years, and was surprised when her daughters were not able to make a home for it .
The piano is in really excellent original condition. The soundboard is perfect , and the piano holds tune like cement . A bit too much south facing sun faded the hand-rubbed ebony satin finish, so I had the case French polished by my excellent refinisher . It looks great, and has a matching bench. The hammers had grown rather worn and their sound somewhat harsh , so I replaced them with new custom-bored Abels . These new hammers , along with a new regulation , give the piano a truly lovely sound , and a very fast light action . This is a professional's piano , and it upholds the reputation Baldwin enjoyed for the latter half of the 20th century.
So , no , they don't make these anymore, Baldwin demised in 2000 , the name was sold overseas ---- they're not Baldwins anymore. For many years the chosen piano of non-classical musicians , they actually sound terrific, even playing Beethoven .
Come see and play this piano , it's worth your while . Asking $6500. toni victorianpiano.com
