This cachepot's exterior is yellow with an allover blue floral design. Interior has sealife illustrations.
The piece is a Monteigh bowl, which has a notched rim designed to hold glasses by their stems for chilling in water. These were originally made of silver but later produced in ceramic, with Chinese versions appearing during the Kangxi period (1662-1722). While a mythical Scotsman named "Monteigh" is said to have given it its name, the bowl's design was brought to the West from China. This is a Chinese reproduction.
It holds fruit, houseplants, etc. I used as a catch-all in my foyer.
