I'm a NYC resident & animal lover. I'm just sharing a VERY important safety tip because there’ve been recent alerts about bad actors targeting online pet listings in NYC/NJ.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) strongly advises that you DO NOT give away animals for free, especially not first-come-first-served. When rehoming animals, screening is essential:
• Verify government photo ID (match name/address).
• Call two personal references and, if possible, a veterinary reference.
• Meet in a shelter or police-precinct lobby, not curbside.
• Use a simple adoption agreement (no resale/breeding; return to you/rescue if rehoming needed).
This is incredibly important for the safety of your animal. Please consider my suggestions.
