Job Title: Part-Time After-School Sewing Instructor

Location: Various elementary schools across Greenwich and Westchester (specific school assignments will be based on instructor availability and program needs)

Program Dates: Fall 2025 (typically starting in September and running through December)

Schedule: Afternoons, Monday-Friday (specific days and times will vary based on school assignments, generally 1-2 hours per session). Instructors may be assigned to one or multiple schools. This is a part-time position, ideal for individuals seeking flexible hours.

Responsibilities:

Lead and instruct engaging sewing classes for elementary school-aged children (grades K-5, or as specified by the program).
Follow Sew Happy curriculum and lesson plans, adapting as needed to meet the diverse needs of the students.
Teach basic hand-sewing.
Create a positive, supportive, and fun learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
Effectively manage a classroom of students, ensuring safety, participation, and a productive learning atmosphere.
Prepare and organize materials and supplies for each class, ensuring all necessary tools are available.
Communicate regularly and effectively with Sew Happy management regarding program progress, student needs, and any logistical updates.
Foster the development of fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and artistic expression in students.
Ensure the proper and safe use and care of all sewing equipment.

Qualifications:

Required: Demonstrated experience working with children in a teaching, mentoring, or childcare capacity (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, babysitter, teacher's aide, youth group leader).
Required: A strong interest in and basic knowledge of sewing.
Ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and effectively with both children and adults.
Enthusiastic, patient, positive, and adaptable demeanor.
Reliable transportation to various elementary school locations across the Bronx/Scarsdale and Southern Westchester
Ability to manage a classroom of elementary-aged children with varying skill levels.
Successful completion of a background check will be required prior to employment.
Training:

Comprehensive training will be provided on Sew Happy's curriculum, teaching methodologies, and safety protocols. We are committed to equipping our instructors with the tools they need to succeed!
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
