Position Summary: A substitute provides coverage based on the needs of the Early Childhood Education Division; substitutes may be called on to work at any of the ECED programs including Early Head Start, Head Start, 3K, or PreK for All. A substitute may be used for additional classroom coverage.
Position Responsibilities:
• Assist the classroom staff in delivering the educational and instructional program for the children
• Manage the classroom to maintain instructional fidelity; daily schedule, lesson plans and routines.
• Use effective strategies to assist the teaching staff in the implementation of the lesson plan
• Possess a broad knowledge of the content area
• Encourage children to problem solve, initiate activities, demonstrate positive child interactions.
• To share with other classroom personnel the performance of routine chores related to all areas of the program
• Employees of the Center are required by law to report any suspected incidents of Child Abuse or Neglect.
• Other related duties as assigned, consistent with the above
Essential skills, experience, licensure, certification:
• Child Development Association (CDA) or College degree (AA or BA) in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field (Preferred)
Valued but not required skills and experience:
• Previous experience in a Head Start Program setting
• A minimum or 1-2 years’ experience volunteering in a childcare setting
