AKAI MPD32 Midi Controller. Unit does work, but has issues.
The USB port is damaged - I was able to use tape to hold the port in place so that it still connects to the computer. Powers on when connected via USB and does send/receive MIDI data.
The main issue is that the controller sends data without touching it. When I try to use it with Ableton, the controller will randomly play notes and adjust parameters. When it's plugged in, you can see on the screen that the unit is constantly sending data to the computer.
I've looked into the issue and it seems very likely that this is related to the damaged USB port. You can buy the port online for less than $10. This controller also has traditional 5-pin MIDI, so maybe the issue wouldn't even be there if you weren't using the USB midi port. In that case, you would need a power cord for the controller, which I don't have (it did not come with one).
Would love to avoid throwing this in the trash, so if you want to give it a go to fix it, please take for free.
