compensation: Per word basis

Who are we?

An early-stage, seed-funded fintech startup based in NYC. We offer a credit-card recommendation tool that helps individuals find cards that will offer them specifically the most cash back, using their real historical spending.

Feel free to give it a whirl yourself: https://cardcruncher.com/

Who are you?

A freelance writer with experience in content writing, preferably personal finance (very important). Finance writing, especially when your company is generating revenue from bank affiliate programs, can be really sensitive towards compliance. So, attention to detail is key in this field.

You'll be writing mostly on topics related to credit and credit cards, but other general personal finance topics will be covered. The job will include a lot of templated product reviews on specific credit cards and other financial products, with the main goal of helping our blog readers cut through all of the bullshit jargon that is credit card terms and conditions.

You should be knowledgeable of credit cards specifically... how they work, what an APR is, how rewards programs work, how credit scores are determined, etc.

The voice of the writing should be friendly but confident. Readers should trust our recommendations. Articles will generally be 500-1,000 words in length and typically won't require any outside interviews.

Note: This job will be worked remotely, but if you live in the NYC area it'd be fun to grab coffee or a beer or whatever from time to time.

What's in it for you?

We're hiring 2-3 writers on a freelance basis at the moment, but plan to hire full-time in the near future. You will be paid fairly on a per-word basis. Looking for a volume of 2-3 articles a week, but, if you're good, we're definitely open to growing that number.

An additional benefit of working for us -- and this can't be understated -- is the experience you'll gain. I know everyone says that, but I really mean it! I (one of the cofounders) responded to a Craigslist ad not so different than this one about 4 years ago. That humble writing job led to a career in personal finance writing which is honestly (in my opinion) the most lucrative/ stable writing work out there.

I've written freelance or full-time for sites like NerdWallet, Credit Karma, Discover, etc. These guys pay really competitive rates for writing... but you've got to get to the skill level they require. I'm offering (in addition to payment) guidance on this world that will lead (if you're a good writer) to really reliable, competitive writing income. Getting paid well as a freelancer will also free up time so you can go and write your novel or screenplay or whatever. (We all share the same dreams.)

What do we need from you?

If you're interested and feel like you're qualified, please send:

  • Your resume or LinkedIn

  • 2-3 relevant writing samples that are published somewhere

  • A little about yourself, aspirations, personality

  • Any other information you feel would be helpful

  • Look forward to hearing from you!
    • do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers
