I've written a few short stories and I'm looking for an editor or writer to help me edit them. I'm not sure "edit" is even the right word. Basically, I want someone to read the stories, tell me what's wrong with them, tell me what they like about them, outline perceived strengths, flaws, weaknesses, etc. Not necessarily comb the text for typos.

I didn't take creative writing classes in school and I've never had my prose critiqued, so I'm hoping to work with someone more familiar with the critiquing process than I am.
My writing has probably been most influenced by writers like Cormac McCarthy, Flannery O'Connor, Annie Proulx, Ernest Hemingway, and maybe to a lesser extent Alice Munro, William Faulkner, and Raymond Carver. I mention this because it might be helpful if you shared an appreciation for at least a few of those writers.
I can pay you, although I have no idea what the market is for this sort of work. Maybe you could propose a payment structure? To give you an idea of the amount of work: I have three finished stories I want to work on, totaling about 21,000 words (two are around 8,000 words, one is around 5,000 words). I'll probably finish a fourth 10,000-word story this month if I don't get sidetracked by my day job. We could either do the critiques remotely via email if you're uncomfortable meeting a stranger from craigslist, or if you don't mind meeting at a coffee shop in Williamsburg, we could do email first then meet to discuss the notes in greater depth. I'm happy to adapt to whatever process you're most comfortable with.
If you're interested, could you send me a few words about your background as a writer or editor, a couple of favorite writers, and give me a rough idea of how much you'd charge? Thanks so much!
