DRAGON 6389 – GERMAN AFRIKA KORPS PANZERGRENADIER EL ALAMEIN 1942 – 1:35 SCALE
KIT OVERVIEW
A four-figure set depicting German Panzergrenadiers during the Second Battle of El Alamein, October–November 1942.
Includes a machine-gunner with an assistant, a rifleman reloading, and a soldier pointing toward the target.
Comes with four sprues for figures and two additional sprues for weapons – primarily MG team and rifle gear, including extra weapon spares not used in this set.
SCULPTING & QUALITY
Classic Gen‑1 styled figures, representing older Dragon molds—not Gen 2. Flowing, natural poses allow flexibility in diorama placement.
Minimal mold seam lines; high-quality sculpt detail. Helmets include “flat‑top” steel types; two are molded with cloth covers.
Weapon sprues feature MG (likely MG‑42 style) with ammo belts and Kar98k rifles; barrels are older-style solid-ended molds, but well-defined.
PAINTING GUIDE & MARKINGS
Box-back includes realistic figure side-view illustrations to assist in part placement. A painting guide suggested Gunze and Model Master paint codes is also included.
No decals are provided with this kit—painting and markings must be custom-applied by modeler.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT: EL ALAMEIN, 1942
Portrays the Afrika Korps during its defense at the pivotal El Alamein campaign in October–November 1942.
The DAK—Deutsches Afrika Korps—faced British and Commonwealth forces and ultimately began a westward retreat across North Africa. The set captures that critical moment of hardened troops under pressure.
CINEMATIC POSES & DIORAMA USE
Poses are calm rather than dynamic: suited for patrol, command, and support roles rather than assault scenes.
MG team and pointing/rifleman figures offer flexibility for desert-themed dioramas, especially when paired with vehicles or support elements.
PAINTER’S TIPS & TROOPER GEAR
Uniforms reflect DAK tropical wear, often sun-bleached, faded olive‑green to khaki tones. Face scarves, goggles, and pith helmet variants may be kitbashed or added via aftermarket to enhance desert authenticity.
Kitbashers and modelers often reuse heads or mix with standard German torso/leg parts for variety.
ASSEMBLY NOTES & RECOMMENDATIONS
Simple assembly process; good fit and limited cleanup needed. No model cement or paint included.
Ideal for intermediate hobbyists, though absolute beginners can tackle it with patience and straightforward builds.
